Writing from the UK regarding 2004 Ford Mondeo Ghia X. Just purchased the car but only one key fob works remotely. If I programme the one which does not work remotely, it works but then the other remote, the one which worked initially, no longer works remotely! What do I need to do to get them both to work remotely?

Within the 20 seconds of “learn mode,” press any button on the first key fob. The system should learn the code for this fob, and the LED should flash once.

The first step is to check your car’s owner’s manual. Sometimes, there might be a specific procedure outlined for programming multiple key fobs for your exact model. This method might involve a different button sequence or include additional steps to retain both fobs’ functionality.

Your car’s manual might have specific instructions for programming additional key fobs. It might involve a specific sequence using the working key fob and the car’s ignition.

The car needs to be put into “learn mode” for it to recognize and accept new key fob codes. This usually involves a specific sequence of actions with the ignition key or buttons within the vehicle (refer to your car’s manual for the exact steps).

Consult your Mondeo’s manual for specific instructions, but it typically involves inserting the working key into the ignition, turning it to position II (one notch before starting) a specific number of times (often four). This puts the system in programming mode.

Following your Mondeo’s manual, there might be a way to clear the car’s memory of programmed fobs. This could involve a specific button combination or sequence with the key in the ignition.
