    Hi,

I took my Matrix to a shop for an oil change.  They said they couldn’t change the oil because the valve cover gasket is leaking oil badly.

But later, I checked my oil and it was full.  There was oil between the two holes on the dipstick.  In fact, it was up to the top hole.  But it’s only a thin film.  I added a quart to be sure.  Then the oil was past the top hole.

So, my question is, how can my oil be full if I have a bad leak?  Am I misreading the dipstick somehow?  Is the shop lying to me?  Or is there some other explanation?  Thanks.

Do you ever need to top up your engine oil between changes?

Also, if there’s a big leak, you should be able to notice it. Do you see any traces of oil on the engine?
