I was changing the oil for a friend’s tribute when I noticed this weird rubber cover thing hanging loosely from under the engine. It was near the back of the oil pan slightly to the drivers side of the engine. When I touched it, the cover immediately fell off. Below is a picture of both the rubber part thing and the area it was covering.

Anyone know what this part is and what it is covering? It wasn’t particularly secure before I touched it, so I assume it had been hanging loosely for a long time. I am hoping it is an easy part to replace/ install and that if my friend goes a few days without it she won’t have any serious damage done to her car.

It’s an access cover to the flywheel/starter. You will most likely not have any emergency issues driving without it, however if you got the chance to put it back, do it! Because it covers dust and other particles to enter the case.
