    Whilst on heavily corrugated dirt tracks at low speed for long distances, what would cause the Limp Mode to activate and dashboard to indicate “Pre-Crash Safety Malfunction” ?

    You need to read the codes and publish them here to get a better answer. However, it’s a common issue when there is something wrong with the radar /steering angle sensor on these car models 🙂

    Many thanks for your very interesting response Mr Selleen.

    That’s the first I’ve heard of that and it certainly makes sense with all the twisting and turning and bouncing around on the extremely long and rugged dirt tracks in Aussie, the ECU/ECM’s radar / steering sensor probably does think the vehicle is about to crash.

    The first time it happened was on the 1,850 km long Canning Stock Route in Western Australia and we managed to get it out of Limp Mode, just by shutting down for 30 mins and then again after we camped out for the night.

    The second time it happened a year later was on the 1,350 km long Anne Beadell track in South Australia / Western Australia and could not get it out of Limp Mode. Fortunately we were only about 100 km from the end, but then had to have it towed from that small town to the nearest Toyota Dealer 350 km to rectify it

    I have now purchased an OBD2 so shall identify the codes if and when it occurs again, as we shall be heading out again on another very long and rough dirt road soon.
