Car Forum › Repair & Maintenance › Cleaning up tank with bad gas – Ford Thunderbird 4.2L V8 1982
The car sat for 16 years, and the gas tank had some pretty bad gas in it. It has a mechanical fuel pump. I put some fresh gas in, but there was a lot of junk coming through the fuel filters, so I siphoned out the tank and removed a lot of sediment. I had planned on dropping the tank for cleaning or replacement, but the sending unit seems stuck and a replacement for that is unobtainable.
Should I just keep running expensive gas through that old tank until the filters capture most of the junk?
